Our History
From the 19th century to today
On the outskirts, where the fields of the countryside meet the dynamism of the city, a farm stretches its buildings to the horizons of Lillois. Amidst the song of the Brabant winds, the 19th century Ferme Bonair watches time go by.
It is at the beginning of the 19th century, by the first settlers attracted by its fertile lands, that Ferme Bonair fulfils its first functions. The old pigsty, its two characteristic barns and its old bricks are witnesses of an important farming activity as the cornerstone of the stomachs of the people of Braine.
Over the decades, the farm has changed hands, passing from family to family, but its commitment to the community has remained intact. Each generation has made its contribution, enriching the history of this iconic place. And then a new chapter opened when the farm was acquired by the municipality. Recognising its value, Braine-l’Alleud once again puts the farm at the service of its citizens. In doing so, it indirectly contributes to the well-being and smiles of the Braine community.
Today, Ferme Bonair has rediscovered all its former splendour, with a touch of modernity. The barns of old now house a restaurant where the authentic flavours of the region are celebrated with passion, as well as a theatre welcoming enchanting and surprising performances. Behind these century-old stone walls lies the ideal setting for inspiring seminars and unforgettable events.
You will have understood, the soul of Ferme Bonair exists and will only exist through its history. In 2025, Ferme Bonair will meet its audience for the first time. Having never truly opened its doors to the people of Braine, its walls are today ready to vibrate with the laughter and wonder of those who come. The farm is finally ready to create a new history where every moment promises an unforgettable experience, where every instant will shine in memories and where every Bonairois and Bonairoise will be its author.
